Up to now, a lack of eco-friendly period product options have forced us to contribute a serious amount of waste to our planet. The average female uses 11,000 disposable period products in her lifetime. To put that in perspective, that's equal to 5,500 plastic bags. Shocking, right? Most of these end up in landfill, or worse, our oceans.
We want to be part of fixing this problem. Our tampons and pads are made with 100% certified organic cotton. These are Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified which is recognised as the world’s leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibres. Our applicators are made from a unique bio-based plastic derived from sugar cane, a renewable source, and are fully recyclable. Bioplastics tend to make carbon savings of 30-80% compared with conventional oil based plastics. Pretty cool, if we do say so ourselves.
But we haven’t stopped there. Our pads and non-applicator tampons come in compostable packaging. That means that they break down in soil within 1 year so won’t end up as landfill or in our oceans. Our applicator tampon wrappers are biodegradable. We’re working on making these fully compostable - watch this space.
So, making the switch to our eco-friendly period products is a no-brainer for the environment. But what about for your body? All of our products are chemical and toxin-free. We don’t even use glue to keep the string on our tampons intact. The strings are cleverly woven to attach to the tampons.
