Our Organic Cotton Applicator Tampons are made with 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton - no pesticides, no rayon, and no hidden toxins. The string is woven directly into the tampon (unlike mainstream brands), not glued, so you’re only putting natural fibres where they belong.

Each tampon is housed in a plant-based applicator made from renewable sugarcane, designed for comfort and ease of use. Rinse and recycle after use for a lower impact on our planet.

Built with leak-proof patented technology, these tampons are hypoallergenic, fragrance-free, and free from chlorine bleach, pesticides, titanium dioxide, dyes, paraffin, glycerin, and other harsh additives found in many mainstream brands.

Every part of our packaging is considered:

  • Wrappers made from compostable wood pulp

  • FSC-certified boxes from responsibly sourced card

Tampon Core & String:

Made from 100% organic cotton, these are biodegradable. However, for hygiene reasons, we recommend wrapping used tampons in tissue or their biodegradable wrapper and disposing of them in the general waste bin. They should never be flushed, as they can cause blockages and harm marine life.

Wrapper:

Made from wood pulp (Natruflex), this can go in your compost bin if industrial composting is available locally. Otherwise, dispose of it in general waste, where it will still break down safely.

Applicator:

Our plant-based applicator, made with sugar-cane, is BPA-free and recyclable in some areas. Please check your local recycling guidelines. If not recyclable in your area, dispose of it in general waste

Every mainstream sanitary pad you ever used still exists.

Period Products That Don’t Outlive You.

Period products are the fifth most common single-use plastic in Europe’s beaches, ranking higher than straws and coffee cups. Unlike microplastics, pads, which are made up of 90% plastic and live on our planet for 600 years, are not compostable meaning they won’t end up in landfill.

Did you know?

The average person uses 11,000 mainstream tampons in their lifetime? That’s the equivalent of 5,500 plastic bags!

The Toxic Truth About Mainstream Period Care

Unfortunately, they’re not just made of cotton. A 2025 UK government-backed study found glyphosate, a pesticide linked to cancer, in several mainstream tampon brands, with levels 40 times higher than what’s legally allowed in drinking water.

At Riley, we believe period care should protect your body, not risk your health. That’s why we use 100% certified organic cotton; no chlorine bleach, no pesticides, no harmful chemicals. Just the good stuff.

The tampon string is cleverly woven in during production therefore, we do not use glues like other mainstream period care brands.

The applicators are plant-based and made from sugar cane which is a renewable resource and can be rinsed and recycled after use.

The tampon wrappers  are made from wood pulp, are biodegradable and certified compostable.

As a B Corp, we’re part of a global community of businesses that meet incredibly high standards of social and environmental impact. It means we’re officially recognised for doing business the right way; by putting people and our planet first It means we’re serious about doing business the right way.

And most importantly, it means you can feel even better about choosing Riley for your period care.

Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) is caused by a reaction of blood and bacteria so while it can happen when a tampon is left in too long, it can also occur with any period product, including pads and reusable products like a menstrual cup and reusable pads. Something else that isn't widely known is that it can actually happen to men, women and children, so it can affect anyone.

We take all necessary precautions to make sure our products are top quality and are made without chlorine bleach, glues, pesticides or any other harmful chemicals like other mainstream brands. However, we unfortunately cannot guarantee that TSS will not occur due to it being a result of a bacterial infection from the blood.

Everyone needs to be extremely careful when it comes to TSS and we should be changing our period products every 3-4 hours.

Head to our blog post to learn more about TSS.
