Did you know that your tampon should always be soaked in blood when removed?
It's so important to use the right absorbency to suit your flow. Everyone's period flow changes throughout their menstrual phase. Here's a full breakdown of when to use each absorbency and remember to change your tampon frequently (we recommend every 3-4 hours):
Light Absorbency:
🩸 <6 grams
Can be used for very light flow periods or towards the end of menstruation
Regular Absorbency:
🩸🩸 6-9 grams
Can be used for medium flow periods or in the middle of menstruation
Super Absorbency:
🩸🩸🩸 9-12 grams
Can be used for heavy flow periods or at the beginning of menstruation
At Riley, we're committed to fighting against period poverty by donating products to those in need, sponsoring doctor-led menstrual health programs and partnering with charities that support vulnerable communities.
1% of every purchase helps us provide dignified, sustainable period care to people who might otherwise go without.
Tampon Core & String:
Made from 100% organic cotton, these are biodegradable. However, for hygiene reasons, we recommend wrapping used tampons in tissue and disposing of them in the general waste bin. They should never be flushed, as they can cause blockages and harm marine life.
Wrapper:
Made from wood pulp (Natruflex), this can go in your compost bin if industrial composting is available locally. Otherwise, dispose of it in general waste, where it will still break down safely.
For more information on how to dispose of Riley products, read our blog article here.
Step 1:
Unwrap & Prep
Take the tampon out of its wrapper. Hold it at the base with clean fingers, making sure the string is hanging down.
Step 2:
Get Comfortable
Stand, sit or squat, whatever feels most comfortable for you. Relax your body to make insertion easier.
Step 3:
Insert & Go
Using your index finger, gently guide the tampon into your vaginal opening at a slight upward angle. Insert until your finger is about halfway to fully inside, or until the tampon feels snug and comfortable.
Step 4:
Remove & Dispose
Change every 4–8 hours. To remove, gently pull the string. Wrap the used tampon in tissue and dispose of it in the bin.
We believe that periods shouldn’t pollute the planet.
Straws got banned. Coffee cups got called out. But period products? They’re still the 5th most common single-use plastic on Europe’s beaches. Mainstream pads are 90% plastic and last 800 years.
Riley’s don’t — they compost. We exist to give you protection that’s powerful, sustainable, and doesn’t stick around for centuries.
Did you know?
The average person uses 11,000 mainstream tampons in their lifetime? That’s the equivalent of 5,500 plastic bags!
We want women to stop settling for toxic period care. Period.
Think tampons are just cotton? Think again. A 2025 UK study found cancer-linked glyphosate in mainstream brands — 40x higher than what’s allowed in drinking water.
At Riley, we believe period care should protect your body, not risk your health. That’s why we use 100% certified organic cotton; no chlorine bleach, no pesticides, no harmful chemicals. Just the good stuff.
"The tampons and pads are amazing . The costumers service is always ready to help and amazing too. I'll recommend it to all my friends . I'm a costumer since 2023 and love it!"

Long-Time Subscriber!
"I’ve been a subscriber for about a year now and have not looked back. The packaging is pretty, discreet and more sustainable than products found in supermarkets. In terms of the tampons themselves, I have had no issues. I am quite fussy about the tampons I use but have found these to be comfortable and absorbent."

Change My Life
"If you have any sensitivities “down there” this is the product for you. I have tried every other tampon/pad, I’ve been on antibiotics and tried creams but nothing has worked. Until I tried these tampons. I’ve been using them for 3 months and haven’t had a single irritation. Sounds cliched but they have changed my life, Ino longer fear my time of the month!"

The tampon string is cleverly woven in during production therefore, we do not use glues like other mainstream period care brands.
The applicators are plant-based and made from sugar cane which is a renewable resource and can be rinsed and recycled after use.
The tampon wrappers are made from wood pulp, are biodegradable and compostable to EN13432.
As a B Corp, we’re part of a global community of businesses that meet incredibly high standards of social and environmental impact. And most importantly, it means you can feel even better about choosing Riley for your period care.
Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) is caused by a reaction of blood and bacteria so while it can happen when a tampon is left in too long, it can also occur with any period product, including pads and reusable products like a menstrual cup and reusable pads. Something else that isn't widely known is that it can actually happen to men, women and children, so it can affect anyone.
We take all necessary precautions to make sure our products are top quality and are made without chlorine bleach, glues, pesticides or any other harmful chemicals like other mainstream brands. However, we unfortunately cannot guarantee that TSS will not occur due to it being a result of a bacterial infection from the blood.
Everyone needs to be extremely careful when it comes to TSS and we should be changing our period products every 3-4 hours.
Can you work out on your period? The answer is yes. And you don't need four cycle-phase apps to do it. Here's the honest, myth-busting guide to training through your cycle: what actually matters, what you can ignore and how to feel good at the gym without obsessive tracking.
It's peak wedding season. You've got the outfit, the heels you can almost dance in, and a summer of celebrations in the diary. There's just one guest who didn't RSVP: your period, which has decided to show up for the big day in a fitted dress and a sea of white.
Whether you're the bride, a bridesmaid, or a guest who'd rather not think about it, a period on a wedding day is completely manageable - with a little planning. Here's how to celebrate without giving it a second thought.
First, take a breath
A period is not going to ruin anyone's wedding. People have walked down aisles, given speeches and danced until 2am on day one of their cycle for as long as weddings have existed. With the right kit and a calm plan, this is a minor logistics task, not a crisis.
Your wedding-day emergency flow kit
The secret is a
ready-to-go kit you can stash in a clutch, a bridesmaid's bag, or the venue bathroom. Pack:
Plenty of tampons and pads - more than you think you'll need, in a couple of absorbencies.
A few pantyliners for backup confidence and lighter moments.
A spare pair of underwear (dark, comfortable).
Wet wipes and hand sanitiser for quick freshening up.
Painkillers for cramps.
A small stain-remover pen - for peace of mind more than anything.
A little zip bag to keep everything tidy and neat.
If you're the bride, hand this to your most reliable bridesmaid. Delegating is what the day is for.
Dress smart for confidence
A tampon is often the easiest choice under a fitted gown or sleek guest dress. No lines, no bulk, total freedom to move and dance. If you prefer pads or want extra reassurance overnight, a slim liner as backup does the job nicely.
Wear underwear you trust, change products a little more often than usual across a long day, and you'll forget your period is even there.
Thinking of delaying your period for the day?
If your period is due to land squarely on a milestone day, you might have heard you can delay it. This is true, but it's worth understanding properly.
Period-delaying medication (most commonly a progestogen such as norethisterone) can postpone your period for a short window. It's typically started a few days before your period is due and stopped when you want it to come.
A few honest things to know:
It's a medication, not a quick fix. It's available on prescription, and in some places through a pharmacy consultation, so you'll need to speak to a GP or pharmacist.
It isn't right for everyone. It may not be suitable depending on your medical history (for example, certain risk factors), which is exactly why a professional needs to be involved.
There can be side effects for some people, such as bloating, mood changes or nausea.
You need to plan ahead. This is a "sort it weeks before, not the night before" situation.
It can be a brilliant option for the right person, just go in informed and let a healthcare professional advise you rather than the internet. We're a period brand, not your doctor, and the best decision here is a personalised one.
Manage cramps and stay comfortable
Long days, heels and dancing are a lot, cramps or no cramps. Stay hydrated, take painkillers at the first twinge rather than toughing it out and grab quiet moments to sit when you need them. A discreet heat patch under your dress can be a lifesaver during the ceremony.
The takeaway
A period during wedding season is a footnote, not a headline. With a well-stocked emergency kit, smart product choices, you can be fully present for every speech, dance and happy tear.
